If you find yourself around town, we recommend…
Staying:
Shoreline Inn
Cayucos
Here’s a casual beachfront hotel with ocean views and a path to the sand.
Cayucos Beach Inn
Cayucos
An affordable nook on the main drag of Cayucos, very cute.
J. Patrick House
Cambria
A very nice spot to stay just down Highway 46 from the ranch, and a short drive from Main Street, Cambria.
The Rigdon House
Cambria
In the heart of “East Village” Cambria, this nook is comfortable and quite affordable for the quality.
Dining:
Halfway Station
Atascadero / Morro Bay
Best burger in town, period. They take great pride in their ingredients, and the drive down Highway 41 is lovely.
Hidden Kitchen
Cayucos
The go-to brunch spot offering organic blue corn waffles, tacos, and smoothies — what’s not to love :)
Novo
San Luis Obispo
Dine underneath the oaks beside San Luis Obispo Creek. Another spot where you really should get the salmon.
Cane TiKi Room
Paso Robles
Yummy food, elaborate cocktails, and a jolly scene for all who love tiki. And there’s a bitchin’ jazz club next door too.
Linn’s
Cambria
A central coast classic, great for any meal, and all their fruits and veggies are grown at a family farm just down our road.
Robin’s
Cambria
An eatery that’s somehow mastered all cuisines, from lasagna to Roghan Josh, but it’s actually their salmon you’re after.
Salmon Creek Trail
Big Sur
One of the glories of living on the Central Coast is being so close to Big Sur. One hike that you could check out while you’re in town is Salmon Creek Trail, which thankfully is still accessible despite Hwy 1 being closed further north.
Cruise Control Gallery
Cambria
Our friend Charlie Smith opened an incredible art gallery on the North Coast that has featured many of our talented friends and community members over the years. Check it out!
Baby Dudes
Morro Bay
Reliably delicious fare with really good natural wine, pinball machines, and the best chocolate chip cookie ever.
Mistura
San Luis Obispo
Treat yourself to some Peruvian fusion, and be sure to order a ceviche and lomo saltado with plentiful green sauce.
Pie in the Sky
Cayucos
A new little pizza joint overlooking the pier that’s actually pretty darn yummy. They make their own ranch, too.
Schooners
Cayucos
Find a table upstairs and enjoy the view over the pier while feasting upon fresh calamari and hefty Bloody Marys.
Exploring:
Harmony Headlands
Harmony
A 4.5-mile out-and-back walk through the coastal headlands to the Pacific. Easy, beautiful, and family-friendly. We recommend stopping by Morii for a cup of locally roasted coffee and perusing the eclectic ceramic studio in Harmony’s mini “downtown” strip (population 18).
San Simeon Cove
San Simeon
North along Highway 1 towards Big Sur, this is often the only sunny beach on the coast when it is foggy, beside Hearst Pier. Hang at the beach or hike out the point! You can get local fare at Sebastians and wine at Hearst Ranch, should you desire an easy picnic.
Johnson Ranch
San Luis Obispo
A beautiful easy loop hike in SLO! Lucia is leading the restoration of Johnson Ranch for the City — supporting indigenous-led prescribed fires, the installation of beaver-dam analogs, and 300 trees being planted along the creek.
Morro Rock
Morro Bay
One of seven volcanic plugs in San Luis Obispo County, this rock rocks! Stroll the embarcadero along the harbor, grab some fresh oysters, and rent a kayak or paddleboat to giggle with the otters in the kelp beds.
Montaña de Oro
Los Osos
Montaña de Oro is a stunning ecological reserve in Los Osos with views of the coast and mountains. You can’t go wrong on any trail, but we recommend the Broderson trail (details can be found in the link!). If you are keen for a nearby snack Wayward Bakery and High Street Deli have you covered.
Three Bridges Oak Preserve
Atascadero
Located just ~2 miles west of the city center of Atascadero, the Preserve contains a 3.6 mile loop hike that winds through a creek, grassland meadows, a variety of special oak groves featuring a multitude of native species. Take the Lookout Trail for views at the top!
Lone Madrone
Templeton
For the past few years, Ryan has managed our neighbor’s vineyard, and sold the Rhone-variety grapes (Marsanne, Roussanne, and Viognier) he grows to the winemakers at Lone Madrone! Visit their tasting room to try our grapes alongside other varietals from dry-farmed vineyards on the westside of Paso Robles.
Tablas Creek
Adelaide
Tablas Creek pioneered the California Rhone movement and is the world's first Regenerative Organic winery, producing Biodynamic Rhone-style blends and varietal wines. They’re a fabulous wine club, and also a wonderful place to visit for tastings and tours. Make sure you drink their Tannat and Vermentino.
